Ignacio girls lose to Ridgway in soccer season opener

The Ignacio girls soccer team lost its season opener against Ridgway on Saturday, 8-0.

Ridgway (1-0, 1-0 2A Region 4) scored seven goals in the first half and one in the second half as Ignacio (0-2, 0-2) saw improvement in the second part of the game.

“They got us good in the first half,” Ignacio head coach Oscar Cosio said in a phone interview with The Durango Herald. “There were positives there in second half. We made some adjustments at halftime and had some opportunities, but came up short. I’m proud of my girls as always, though.”

Ignacio will be off all next week and will return to action when the Bobcats travel to Pagosa Springs to play the Pirates at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 22 at Pagosa Springs High School.

“(Pagosa Springs) always has a good squad,” Cosio said. “We’re done with preparation, and hopefully we’ll do the best we can against them.”
