Fort Lewis softball splits again with Black Hills State

The Fort Lewis College women’s softball team took on the Black Hills State Yellow Jackets once more and, for the second time in two days, split a doubleheader.

The Skyhawks (8-21, 5-9 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) won Game 1, 7-1, but then dropped Game 2 to the Yellow Jackets (6-15, 6-10 RMAC) in a shutout loss, 7-0.

FLC got going early in the first inning when Adriana Rosthenhausler scored off a Denae Fisher double. Later in the first, Angelique Elemen hit a solo home run.

Rosthenhausler later drove in Gianna Melagrano in the third inning for a run batted in. Elemen then added her second RBI of the game when she drove in Rosthenhausler. FLC was up 4-0 after three innings of play. Elemen finished Game 1 by going 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

The bats were alive for Game 1 as FLC totaled 12 hits, and Elemen went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Melagrano finished 2-for-3 and three runs scored.

Pitcher Victoria Johnson went the distance, allowing one run on four hits while striking our four batters.

In Game 2, FLC’s bats were silenced, as the Skyhawks were held to only six hits and were shutout for the fourth time this season.

Lauren Caldwell went 2-for-2 ,and Rachel Foos received the loss in the circle, allowing five earned runs on 11 hits.

FLC will host New Mexico Highlands University and Colorado School of Mines in RMAC pod play Saturday and Sunday at Aspen Field.
