Seibel shines in CCGS All-State game

CCGS has Red team beating Blue, 64-63

The Colorado Coaches of Girls Sports held its annual CCGS All-State girls basketball game over the weekend that featured Ignacio High School’s Ellie Seibel scoring seven points for the Red Team in a 64-63 win over the Blue Team, which was held at Arvada West High School.

Seibel represented the San Juan Basin League at the 2A level. Seibel was selected to the team earlier in the week for the CCGS All-State game as voted upon by league coaches.

The CCGS All-State games are split up from 1A-5A levels with each league sending a representative for the game. Rosters are split at random to form the two competing red and blue teams.

The Red Team was coached by Ignacio head coach Shane Seibel, and the Blue Team was coached by David Bruner of Oak Creek Soroco.

“It’s a great honor because it’s based on the peers of the San Juan Basin League,” said coach Shane Seibel in a phone interview with The Durango Herald. “They are seeing those qualities of (Ellie) as a basketball player and as a person. I’m very proud of her. She represented herself, her school and her family very well against league opponents.”

Seibel was selected to the San Juan Basin All-Conference Team along with teammates Chrystianne Valdez. Hilda Garcia was selected to the All-Second Team.
