Teeing off in the Southwestern League Championship, a young Durango Demons girls golf team saw a few personal-best rounds.
Durango High School finished seventh out of 12 teams at Tiara Rado Golf Course in Grand Junction. The Demons finished an even 100-over-par to finish three strokes ahead of Aspen and 23 behind Montrose. Ridgle won the competition at 29-over, and Grand Junction was second at 58-over. The Demons recorded a team total of 313.
DHS junior Katrina Chandler shot a 103 to lead the Durango team. Faith Mewmaw shot 105 for a new personal best. Faith Mewman and Taylor Edwards both finished with 105, and Lauren Biery scored a 115. Quinn Griswold also shot 121. Only the top three scores counted toward the team total. Edwards and Griswold’s scored also were personal bests.
The Demons won’t host an invitational at Hillcrest Golf Club next week, instead turning their focus to the regional tournament scheduled for May 6-7 at Yampa Valley Golf Course in Craig.
