Kyle Robinette records 50th goal, Durango boys lacrosse blasts Montrose

Robinette’s seven goals give him 50

The Durango lacrosse team had little time to recover from an emotional senior day win Friday before hopping on the bus to Montrose for Saturday’s game.

It didn’t matter, however, as the Demons used the momentum gained Friday to steamroll the Indians 17-2.

Kyle Robinette led the relentless Durango offense with seven goals. That pushed his season total to 50. Tommy Rodgers and Cullen Robinette each had two goals and four assists, while Jackson Steigelman had two goals and an assist.

“We’re playing with a lot of confidence right now,” said Durango head coach John Robinette. “I feel like we’re hitting our stride and coming together as a team at the perfect time of the year. The boys were dominant (Saturday).”

The Demons got off the bus and launched an offensive barrage at Montrose by outshooting the hosts 16-3 in the first quarter. The Durango pressure amounted to seven unanswered goals in the first half for a 9-1 lead at intermission.

The beating carried into the second half, as everyone got in the mix for Durango. Seniors Max Ickes, Boyd Matheson and Oaken Oles continued to do damage, and the rest of the league will be eager to see them move on when the season ends. Ickes had a goal, while Matheson and Oles each had a goal and an assist.

Collin Barkley scored a goal and added two assists and Easton Verduzco was a menace on faceoffs. He won 13-of-16 Saturday after winning 19-of-23 in Friday’s win. The Demons domination of Montrose led to a 42-12 advantage in shots.

Durango will await its next opponent as teams from around the league wrap up their regular season schedules before the Mountain League Crossover game is played next weekend.
