Bayfield girls soccer shuts out Ridgway

Wolverines will close out season next week

The Bayfield High School girls soccer team is getting ready to end its season next week. Before the Wolverines can call it a year, they finished up the last of their away games with a Saturday trip to Ridgway.

The Wolverines dominated the game from the get-go as Bayfield (7-2-2, 7-1-2 3A Region 5 League) won 4-0.

Lena Dosckocil scored on a rebound from a Misty Helton shot to open the game’s scoring.

Ridgway (6-5-1, 5-5-1) was unable to stop Bayfield’s attack, as Helton scored the second goal to go up 2-0 by halftime.

The win came less than 24 hours after the Wolverines tied Telluride 2-all.

“(Ridgway) played pretty tough, but we dominated,” Bayfield head coach Jen Zelinski said. “We came out hard after (Friday in Telluride). We were tired, and I utilized my subs because they were exhausted.”

Coming out of halftime, Bayfield added to its score when Maddy Duran scored on a free kick to make it 3-0.

Bayfield’s fourth goal came from Savannah Kaufmann.

Taylor Morris, Sydney Milner and Helton all had an assist.

Bayfield has two games remaining for the regular season. Both will be played at Bayfield High School. The Wolverines will play Alamosa at 4 p.m. Tuesday, then will close out the season against Ignacio at 7 p.m. Friday night.
