Parks and Wildlife meeting here March 18

Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the agency in charge of hunting, is formulating a new strategic plan.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife will hold a meeting March 18 in Durango for those wanting to learn about and comment on the state agency’s proposed strategic plan.

The meeting, scheduled from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Durango Public Library, is one of eight announced Tuesday by Parks and Wildlife.

The public can also comment through April 3 on a form that can be accessed on the Parks and Wildlife website.

Parks and Wildlife said in a news release Tuesday that it aims to craft a vision and strategy that is shared by the public, stakeholders, staff and the Parks and Wildlife Commission. The strategic plan “will set a high-level vision with overarching goals for the agency and identify priorities and strategies for managing Colorado’s state parks, wildlife and outdoor recreation resources,” the release said.

The Parks and Wildlife Commission began the strategic planning process in December. Commission Chair Robert Bray said he recognizes the benefits of a broad set of individuals weighing in.

“I encourage all Coloradans with an interest in Colorado’s parks, wildlife and outdoor recreation to share their thoughts on the future direction of CPW,” Bray said in the news release.

The workshops begin Feb. 24 in Colorado Springs, with others set for Pueblo, Lamar, Salida, Denver and Grand Junction.

“Developing a strategic plan places CPW in the driver’s seat, and guides our priorities for where our critical resources are applied,” said Parks and Wildlife Director Bob Broscheid. “As a public trust agency, engaging and listening to our public is critical to the strategic planning process.”

The strategic plan is scheduled to be finalized in the fall of 2015. Parks and Wildlife will then develop short-term operational plans to translate the shared vision into action on the ground.
