Time running out to cast ballots for LPEA board

The LPEA’s annual meeting and luncheon at the Sky Ute Casino and Resort in Ignacio on Saturday will be the last chance for members of the cooperative organization to cast their votes.

Those who aren’t attending the meeting must return their ballots to the La Plata County Clerk’s office in Bodo Industrial Park by 4 p.m. Friday.

Ballots also may be returned to the LPEA’s offices in Durango and Pagosa Springs, the La Plata County administration office in Durango or Bayfield Town Hall.

Saturday’s annual meeting begins at 10:30 a.m. It will include reports from LPEA and Tri-State officials as well as a question-and-answer session with members. Election results will be announced during the meeting.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. and ballots must be submitted prior to the meeting’s commencement.

Eight candidates are running this year. Three directors represent each of the cooperative’s four districts, and one from each is elected annually on a rotating basis.

Candidates include:

In District 1, Archuleta County: Incumbent Mark Garcia and newcomers Mike Alley and Calum McNeil.In District 2, south and west La Plata County: Dan Huntington and Lori Schell.In District 3, the city of Durango: Doug Lyon will represent the district. He was the sole nominee.

In District 4, east and north La Plata County: Incumbent Jack Turner and newcomers John Beebe and Ron Bishop in District 4. The LPEA has approximately 40,000 customers.
