A 19-year-old man believed to have broken his arm in a fall in the Falls Creek area north of Durango apparently made it out of the wilderness on his own power, according to scanner reports.

La Plata County Search and Rescue prepared to search for the man about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, but the search was quickly called off.

“Evidently a lad fell down and hurt his arm,” said Butch Knowlton, director of Search and Rescue. “We’re trying to figure out where he is. It looks like it’s on the ridge line to the west of Waterfall Ranch.”
