Downtown, north Main online directory offered

Durango and area residents are great at shopping locally. I hear from my friends all the time about how they try to go the extra mile to get goods and services from local merchants. The Durango Chamber of Commerce and Local First are two organizations that push this message out all the time.

Sometimes, it is hard to find what you need, despite the variety of stores that we have downtown and along north Main Avenue. To help bridge that gap, the Durango Business Improvement District is creating our first-ever online business directory.

BID’s online business directory is designed for both tourists and locals to help them find what they need.

Looking for Patagonia clothing? Want to know who serves breakfast and brunch? Wondering where to find a CPA to help with your tax questions? Downtown and north Main Durango have all this and more, and you will be able to find out where, who and how on BID’s business directory.

BID’s online business directory debuted over Memorial Day weekend. Bookmark DowntownDurango.org/business for this new source of information to help you shop locally.

Businesses are divided into five top-level categories. Then each top-level category has subcategories underneath it to allow for an easy way to search for local goods and services. After the subcategories, there are individual business listings.

To date, there are 250 listings in the directory.

Each individual business listing contains a description of the business; hours of operation; links to websites and social media; address and a map; phone number; and in most cases, photos of the business and some of the items it sells. Users of the directory can also search by keyword for goods or services they are seeking.

BID has created printed directories in the past, but many times, these are outdated as soon as they are printed. The online business directory will be updated constantly with accurate information on goods and services available locally.

The directory will also be mobile friendly, thanks to our developers at Milo Media. It will work on your laptop or desktop, as well as on our tablet and phone.

You can start using BID’s online business directory today to help you shop local. If you have a business that is located in the Central Business District, or on north Main Avenue, and you have not entered your business information, please do so immediately. Go to DowntownDurango.org/business and scroll down for instructions.

To keep up with information about downtown and north Main Avenue throughout the year, sign up for BID’s weekly E-News, a short, accurate and timely information piece published every Wednesday morning. To sign up, text DURANGOBID to 22828 or go to DowntownDurango.org and click on the Communications tab.
