Check out Concerts @ the Park series this summer

Blaylock

With the weather warming up and the kids out of school, now is the time to enjoy the outdoors in all of the great ways that Durango has to offer.

Not the least among these is the Concerts @ the Park series offered by the Community Concert Hall and Alpine Bank.

Beginning June 16 and running every Thursday through July, you can bring your picnic, lawn chairs, blankets, etc., to Buckley Park and enjoy a free concert. What a wonderful way for the college and Alpine Bank to give back to the community. No tickets are required, just show up and have a great time.

Visit www.durangoconcerts.com to view the lineup of fun music they have on tap for this summer series.

If you’d like to catch up with Dennis Elkins of the theater department, you should head over to Pagosa Springs to catch his performance as Col. Nathan Jessop in ”A Few Good Men” put on by Thingamajig Theatre Co., and directed by New York director, Melissa Firlit. You’ll have to hurry, though, as the show closes Sunday. (www.pagosacenter.org or call 731-SHOW (7469).

The music department welcomes a few new members and two babies this summer. Brent and Ginger Williams and toddler Nigel recently welcomed Damian Hugo Williams into their family. Marc and Katharine Reed are looking forward to their new addition due to arrive soon.

We are also welcoming four new adjunct faculty members. Erik Gustafson, an active tenor soloist and chorister performing all around the country, will be teaching voice lessons. You already know his wife, Kerry Ginger, our full-time voice instructor. They are quite a team, and we’re excited to add Erik to our teaching roster.

Easton Stuard, a jazz pianist holding a Doctorate of Musical Arts in jazz piano from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will teach a session of Blues, Jazz and Rock; should be a great class!

Andreas Tischhauser and his wife, Drea Pressley, will each teach a section of The Musical Experience. Both have extensive experience teaching and performing. Andreas is a performer and a teacher. He’s taught flute, piano and voice, as well as directed choirs and musical theater productions. Drea has an extensive résumé of performing as a chorister, soloist and film session singer.

Be sure to mark your calendars for 3 p.m. Sept. 18 for our annual “Faculty Collage” recital, at which you will be able to meet our new folks and be entertained by our entire faculty.

Thank you for your continued interest and support in the arts offerings at Fort Lewis College. We really do appreciate it.
