Adam Levine offers to pay for 'Voice' singer Christina Grimmie's funeral

Christina Grimmie performs as the opener for Rachel Platten in March at Center Stage Theater, in Atlanta. Maroon 5’s lead singer and “The Voice” mentor Adam Levine has offered to pay for Grimmie’s funeral expenses after she was killed after being shot at a concert venue in Orlando on Friday.

Maroon 5’s Adam Levine has extended an offer to pay for the funeral costs of slain singer Christina Grimmie, according to The Associated Press.

Grimmie, a former finalist on “The Voice,” was fatally shot in Florida a few days ago. Levine served as her mentor on the NBC show. This weekend, he wrote on Twitter that he and his wife were “absolutely devastated and heartbroken” by Grimmie’s death.

A spokeswoman confirmed to AP that the offer was extended.

The 22-year-old Grimmie was killed after a performance in Orlando. The gunfire broke out while Grimmie and members of the band Before You Exit were signing autographs and selling merchandise after a Friday night concert, police have said.

Grimmie’s death came on the same weekend as a mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, which left 49 people dead, not including the gunman.

In a Facebook post, Grimmie’s brother wrote that he was “blown away” when he learned of Levine’s offer.

“I’m so blown away by everything right now,” Marcus Grimmie wrote in the Facebook post, which also mentioned an online fundraising effort. “But all I can say is thank you. And Christina will be missed and never ever forgotten.”

Christina Grimmie’s publicist confirmed in an email that the Facebook account belonged to Grimmie’s brother.

An investigation into the shooting found that a man came up to Grimmie after the show at the Plaza Live, Orlando Police Chief John Mina said at a news conference Saturday.

Grimmie was hit when the man opened fire, Mina said, and her brother then tackled the suspect.

Grimmie was taken to a hospital but died from her injuries, according to a news release.

The suspect, identified Saturday as 27-year-old Kevin James Loibl, shot and killed himself during the incident, said police. Liobl, of St. Petersburg, “traveled to Orlando, apparently to commit this crime,” Mina said.

He was armed with handguns and a hunting knife during the encounter, police said in a news release.

Grimmie, who had more than 3 million subscribers on YouTube, finished in third place during Season 6 of “The Voice.” The New Jersey native’s finale performances on the NBC show were watched by more than 11 million people, according to Nielsen.
