Durango Brewing Co. eyes July 1 reopening

Local brewery has spent almost a year closed for renovations
Durango Brewing Co. at 30th Street and north Main Avenue plans to reopen on July 1 after spending almost a year closed for renovations.

After almost a year closed for renovations, Durango Brewing Co. is eyeing a July 1 opening for its taproom at 3000 Main Avenue.

Spokeswoman Andrea Allison said the local microbrewer hired Elwin Johnston, who did the original train depot theme design for the taproom several years ago, to lead the remodel and building upgrades.

“Elwin and his team have been busy the last several months with major renovations to both the interior and exterior of the building,” Allison said.

“The most prominent change is that we opened up the second rollup door completely to create another flow-through space to our new 80-foot porch which spans almost the entire length of the building.”

Other changes customers will notice are new floors, updated bathrooms, new paint to the interior and exterior, new signage, a drop-down TV screen for special events and a new menu, among others.

Allison said DBC also hired longtime Durango resident India Downing as tap room general manager.

“She has been working tirelessly the past several weeks to get everything in order so we can open the doors July 1,” Allison said.

Durango Brewing Co. was founded in 1990. It is the state’s third-oldest microbrewery. The company closed its taproom and began renovations in September 2015.
