More gun violence brings more inaction

Our country seems trapped, having painted itself into a bloody corner.

The writer of the candlelight vigil editorial (Herald, June 16) got it right: “The political cul-de-sacs of gun control vs. Second Amendment rights, of religious freedoms vs. militant calls for holy war, of personal freedoms vs. security.”

Every year, thousands of friends and family mourn their dead and wounded. They ache over the losses, and yet, another year goes by while Congress does another full year of nothing. Nothing.

We lose to gun violence in two years what we lost in 10 years in Vietnam and nothing is done. The mass murders continue like clockwork; the bodies pile up as if an army of lone wolf sociopaths are waging a war against innocence, and even more nothing happens from our Congress.

We have a full-fledged war in our streets, and it appears the only solution is exactly what the gun companies and their mouthpiece, the National Rifle Association, want.

Since your government won’t protect you, you need a gun. And guess what we have for you! Every fresh massacre drives up gun sales. As long as they profit, the insanity doesn’t matter; in fact, it’s good for business.

Does anyone want to wager what will come out of this recent horror in Orlando? I wager a lot more nothing.
