County Road 120 repaving to begin Monday

Work marks first phase of GCC Energy’s required improvements
One of many company trucks from the King II coal mine passes by a home on County Road 120. GCC Energy, which owns the mine, will pay for road improvements that will begin Monday.

Work will begin Monday on paving a mile-long stretch of County Road 120, the first phase to improve the road and soothe its residents.

GCC Energy, which owns the King II coal mine on County Road 120, will pay costs as stipulated by a recently awarded commercial land-use permit from La Plata County. GCC Energy agreed to pay $10 million for road improvements and realignment.

Four Corners Materials will pave the section between the 2500 block and 3200 block.

Delays as long as 15 minutes are expected.

Working hours will be 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and the project is expected to be completed July 8.
