Purgatory to hold first Locals Benefit Day of season on Sunday

Skiers hope to be enjoying runs like this on Sunday, which is Purgatory Resort’s first of four Benefit Days this ski season. The beneficiaries this year are Trails 2000, La Plata Family Centers Coalition, Heart Safe La Plata and the Be For the Recreational and Artistic Needs of Kids Foundation.

Skiers who like to make a difference while they schuss down Lower Hades will enjoy Locals Benefit Days, when Purgatory Resort offers discounted tickets and gives a portion of the day’s proceeds to selected nonprofits.

The first Locals Day is Sunday, with the remainder taking place Jan. 10, Feb. 21 and March 20. The selected charities this year include the Be For the Recreational and Artistic Needs of Kids Foundation, Heart Safe La Plata, La Plata Family Centers Coalition and Trails 2000.

To participate, skiers need to download a coupon at www.purgatoryresort.com under the events calendar. A Locals Benefit Day Punch Pass is also available at the Purgatory Office in Bodo Industrial Park or at the area’s Ticket Office for $125, less than $32 per day.

Six local purveyors of outdoor gear will offer unlimited equipment demos for $10 on all four Benefit Days.
