Politics and pubs

“These are tiny producers who would never find their product in the (coolers) of giant chain stores,” said Ken Martin, head brewer at Steamworks Brewing Co., when talking about proposed legal changes that would allow full-strength beer and wine sales in grocery stores. Martin’s concern is that the change, which will go before voters in November, will harm liquor stores that sell small, craft beers and leave fewer outlets for microbrewers to sell their ales. Martin holds a pint of Keep Colorado LocAle, a pale ale Steamworks and other Colorado microbreweries are making to draw attention to the issue. The ale will be available Friday at Steamworks.
