Power line fire doused along on La Posta Road

Firefighters responded Thursday afternoon to the 3000 block of La Posta Road (County Road 213) for a report of a fire burning in thick weeds and grasses near structures. The fire was doused as of 5:45 p.m.

Firefighters responded Thursday afternoon to the 3000 block of La Posta Road (County Road 213) where a fire was smoldering near a house and shed.

The fire, reported about 4:45 p.m., appears to have started as a result of high winds knocking down a power line, said Dan Bender, spokesman for the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office.

The fire grew to about 40 feet in length and burned along an irrigation ditch. Property owners used buckets of water to keep it away from structures, Bender said.

La Plata Electric Association was called to deal with the power line, and the fire was out by 5:45 p.m., Bender said.
