Mobile lab competition includes Mancos

Members of the maintenance group at Western Excelsior started a class inside the electronics mobile learning lab at their plant. Pueblo Community College has been recognized for its mobile learning lab.

Pueblo Community College, which includes a campus in Mancos, is among 10 competitors for an award from the Bellwether College Consortium for a program it operates in Southwest Colorado, among other sites.

The college was recognized for its mobile learning lab, which sends instructors to employers to train workers in skills such as welding, machining or mechanics.

Three of the college’s seven lab-on-wheels works out of Southwest Colorado Community College in Mancos, a branch of Pueblo Community College.

The rolling labs are operating 78 percent of the time, said Gary Franchi, the college’s public relations coordinator.

Pueblo Community College will make a presentation about the mobile learning labs Jan. 26 in Orlando, Florida.

The winning project will receive the 2015 Bellwether Award.
