Why would LPEA still support a waiver?

I would like to share an email I sent to members of La Plata Electric Association’s board of directors after finding out that some of them still supported signing Tri-State’s contract-negotiation waiver despite the June 16 Federal Energy Regulatory Commission decision soundly rejecting Tri-State’s strong-arm tactics.

“May I ask you: Why do you think it would be appropriate for the LPEA’s board to sign over your contract negotiation rights?

What’s in it for LPEA and our community to allow Tri-State to dictate how we deal with a future that holds many difficult challenges, demanding local flexibility to deal with local situations? Seems to me, all Tri-State cares about is its own corporate self-interest. Aren’t you supposed to be looking out for our community’s interests? Please help me understand your stance.
