Denver Broncos preview at a glance

A look at the 2016-17 Denver Broncos heading into the team’s defense of last year’s Super Bowl 50 victory.

New faces: LT Russell Okung, P Riley Dixon, RT Donald Stephenson, QB Paxton Lynch, DE Jared Crick, DE Adam Gotsis, S Justin Simmons, RB Devontae Booker, FB Andy Janovich.

Key losses: QB Peyton Manning, QB Brock Osweiler, DE Malik Jackson, ILB Danny Trevathan, P Britton Colquitt, S David Bruton Jr., TE Owen Daniels, S/KR Omar Bolden.

Strengths: Entire defense is stout, from pass-rushing prowess led by Von Miller to linebacker corps led by Brandon Marshall and star-studded secondary featuring Chris Harris Jr., Aqib Talib, T.J. Ward and Bradley Roby. Broncos’ offense features powerful backfield punch with C.J. Anderson and rookie Devontae Booker plus Pro Bowl receivers Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas represent one of league’s best combos. Kicker Brandon McManus set NFL mark by making all 10 playoff kicks.

Weaknesses: In starter Trevor Siemian and Lynch, Broncos have two QBs who have never thrown NFL pass. O-line is banged up with Ty Sambrailo, Darrion Weems and James Ferentz missing significant camp time with injuries. D-line was depleted by season-ending ACL injury to Vance Walker, Jackson’s replacement.

Fantasy Players To Watch: Anderson, Sanders, Thomas, McManus, TE Virgil Green.

Expectations: Broncos are gearing for Super Bowl repeat behind Siemian, whose only snap as rookie was kneel-down at Pittsburgh in December. Manning’s successor won’t have to carry team’s high expectations alone thanks to Miller and rest of Denver’s dazzling defense that has chance to be even better in 2016, and skill players that surround him on offense.
