Another red flag, no-burn day in Southwest Colorado

Chance of thunderstorms before another dry spell
A dust devil makes its way across a dry field on Thursday southwest of Durango near Breen. A red flag warning was issued for Monday in western Colorado, including Durango.

All of western Colorado and much of eastern Utah are under a red flag warning again, and a no-burn order was issued Monday by the Durango Fire Protection District.

Although some rain could come Monday evening and over the next couple of days, the continued hot, dry weather have made for tinder-like conditions in the region. Much of the Western Slope has been under red flag or fire weather watch alerts for four days. Monday’s red flag warning is in effect until 10 p.m.

For Durango, the National Weather Service says there’s a 30 percent chance of scatter showers and thunderstorms Monday afternoon, increasing to a 40 percent chance on Wednesday. Some storms could produce gusty winds.

Highs will be in the low to mid-80s – a slight cool-off from 90-degree temperatures over the weekend. Nighttime lows are forecast for the mid-50s.

But by the weekend, things are expected to dry out again and daytime highs around 90 are in the forecast again, according to the weather service.
