I am a property owner in Durango currently living in Europe, and I keep informed about the fire situation each morning through The Durango Herald. Many thanks for such wonderful articles and updates on this difficult fire situation. Even knowing that this job is extremely dangerous, it is also nice to know how many aspects are involved to keep our homes and the beautiful surrounding lands we appreciate as safe as possible.

The commitment of people like Bill Wenzel (Herald, June 11) to uproot and leave families behind, risking their own lives, to save our properties is beyond amazing. Thank YOU, Mr. Wenzel, and all of your co-firefighters! It is an understatement to say that we are very lucky to have brave and committed people like you in this world.
