Registration open for DAC’s BoysART

The Durango Arts Center’s BoysART program is intended for art-loving boys ages 12-15.

This year, BART will feature multiple creative sessions taught by local artists: Dan Groth will teach collage and assemblage; Michael Darmody, an artist and instructor at San Juan College, will share how to design and build bristol board castles; Ed Bolster will teach perspective drawing; and DAC Applause Director, Jason Lythgoe, will be lead theater games.

BART will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Registration fees are $400 for DAC members and $450 for nonmembers. Scholarships are available.

Roxy Roca getting ready to funk up Aztec

Southern soul/funk band Roxy Roca will be playing at Crash Music, 104 North Main Ave. in Aztec, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Austin, Texas-based-band formed in 2010 and was influenced by classic soul and funk.

The Met coming back to Durango

The Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College will again partner with The Metropolitan Opera to screen performances of The Met: Live in HD during the opera’s 2016-2017 season.

The series will kick off with its 100th live production on Oct. 8, with Wagner’s “Tristan and Isolde.” Ten live performances will be featured during the season on Saturday mornings, delivered via satellite.

Advance tickets for individual screenings of The Met: Live in HD ($20-$23 plus service fee) as well as season subscriptions ($180 plus service fee) are available online at www.durangoconcerts.com, by calling 247-7657 or at the ticket office inside the Durango Welcome Center at Eighth Street and Main Avenue.
