Angler not deserving of condescension

I am writing in response to Tom Petit’s letter (Herald, Aug. 22) in which he criticizes Robert Thomas for his decision not to release a trout he caught in the Animas River.

I found Mr. Petit’s comments to be both arrogant and condescending.

After first introducing himself in a self-important manner as a fly-fisherman and member of several organizations, he proceeds to criticize Mr. Thomas for his decision not to release the fish.

Mr. Petit then states Mr. Thomas could have gone to him and he would have bought Mr. Thomas enough farm-raised trout to fill (he actually used the word “stuff”) his freezer.

I happen to know that Mr. Thomas is an amputee and uses a wheelchair, but I am confident he has more pride and dignity than to grovel before Mr. Petit and beg for fish.
