Powerful storms expected early this week

Light snow in high country possible
Powerful thunderstorms are expected to begin Sunday night and intensify Monday and Tuesday, Joe Ramey, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Grand Junction office, says. The storms could even bring light snow in the high country above 11,000 feet.

Temperatures will remain in the mid-70s during the day, with overnight lows in the 50s.

In elevations at 11,000 feet and above, Ramey said the storms could bring light snowfall, yet not in amounts that are expected to accumulate.

Rain and storms will become more scattered Wednesday, and they will remain that way for the rest of the week.

However, Ramey said storms will pick up again this weekend.

“This is our wet season,” he said. “And we’re producing.”
