Why give Mayday Mine another chance?

The Mayday Mine, discussed frequently in the pages of the Herald several years ago, has (again) resurfaced. State regulators are giving the project “one more chance” to meet state mining regulations and clean up their historic violations.

With La Plata Canyon getting unprecedented tourist visitation, and after the fiasco of the Gold King mining disaster, one wonders why regulators will not flush the project down the toilet of regulatory oversight.

A recent Denver Post article reports on a federal lawsuit by the Environmental Protection Agency filed against the Florida-based corporation that owns the mine. See http://dpo.st/2bvlsw0.
