Right-to-lifers should pledge support

In response to letter from Richard A. Bollard (Herald, Aug. 18): My concern when considering my vote this year will not be the unborn but what happens to children after birth.

My suggestion is for everyone who is so concerned for the unborn sign a pledge to assume responsibility for the born child from conception through completed education. Sign a pledge that this child will receive proper neonatal care and will never be put into a foster program. They will receive your love, concern and care throughout their life. They will not be raised by a mentally-ill, alcoholic or drug-addicted mother. Handicapped or critically-ill children will be welcome into your home and given your all encompassing care, with medical bills to be gladly paid by you. Pledge that no child will be raised in poverty and all will be well-fed and receive a good education from you.

Until you are willing to make this pledge, stay out of a woman’s business as she, her caretaker, her mate, her doctor and her minister or whomever she chooses weighs these issues. It’s time for the right-to-lifers, or self-righteous dealers in human misery, to start stepping up to the plate and taking the responsibility that they are demanding laws force others to do. Any politician touting the right-to-life line should be prepared to sign this pledge.
