La Plata County develops app for smoother web access

Residents can browse website and social media on mobile devices
A mobile app allows residents to browse La Plata County government’s website, news feed and social media.

La Plata County government is developing a mobile app to give users easier access to the county’s website and services.

The program, downloadable for free through app stores including iTunes and Google Play, has gone live, and it is functioning, though county staff continues to work out a few technical kinks.

“It will allow people to access the website in a mobile-friendly setting,” county spokeswoman Megan Graham said. “All county services are available without having to go through the web browser.”

The app provides access to the county website, Twitter and Facebook pages, and news. It’s about 95 percent complete.

Those who want to download it can find it by searching “La Plata County” in an app store.

The county has made other digital shifts in recent months to improve its website and streamline its application processes.

The planning department launched a web portal that allows users to fill out building permit applications, report code violations, request building inspections, and search properties and project statuses online.
