Axis Health to build care center in Pagosa Springs

New facility to open in 2017
Axis Health System plans to open Archuleta Integrated Health Care in May 2017 at 52 Village Drive in Pagosa Springs. The facility, shown in this artist’s rendering, will provide primary care, more options for people who are under- or uninsured and is designed for future dental care as funding becomes available.

Ground was broken Wednesday on a new 10,275-square-foot outpatient clinic that promises to provide more access to health care in Pagosa Springs and Archuleta County.

Axis Health System representatives announced Monday that the facility – Archuleta Integrated Health Care – should open in May 2017. It is located off of U.S. Highway 160 at 52 Village Drive in Pagosa Springs.

“In Pagosa, patient needs are high, and provider numbers are low,” Sarada Leavenworth, senior director of strategy, development and communications for Axis, said in a news release. “We have already been providing behavioral health care in Archuleta County, and this is a natural next step in our provision of health care. The facility represents a critical expansion to serve Archuleta County residents and meet our mission of making a meaningful difference.”

According to the news release, the facility will be the fifth health care clinic run by Axis, which has served Archuleta, Dolores, La Plata, Montezuma and San Juan counties for more than four decades.

Officials said Archuleta Integrated Health Care will provide primary care, more options for people who are under- or uninsured with a sliding-fee discount and is designed for future dental care as funding becomes available.

“We are committed to providing the highest quality health care possible to all residents of Southwest Colorado, and we believe integrated health care is the highest quality of care,” Leavenworth said.

An open house will be planned when the facility is expected to open next year.
