Three finalists named for 6th Judicial District judgeship

Governor has 15 days to appoint new judge
Three finalists have been named to fill a judgeship being created this January with the retirement of 6th Judicial District Chief Judge Gregory Lyman.

The finalists are Sean Murray, Todd Norvell and David Ottman.

Ottman has worked since 2009 as a prosecutor for the 6th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Durango. Before that, he worked with Colorado Legal Services, in private practice and as a prosecutor in Farmington for five years.

Norvell, a former FBI agent, has worked as a prosecutor for the 6th Judicial District, and currently serves as assistant U.S. attorney in Durango.

Murray used to work as a public defender in Durango before becoming assistant district attorney for the 22nd Judicial District in Cortez.

Six people applied for the position, including three who weren’t nominated: Jodie L. Behrmann of Grand Junction, Andrew Hughes of Pagosa Springs and Janice C. Orr of Bailey.

Gov. John Hickenlooper has 15 days from Wednesday to appoint one of the nominees to serve as judge in the district, which includes Archuleta, San Juan and La Plata counties.
