Find out the facts about ColoradoCare

Recently, there have been some untruths floating around about Amendment 69, aka ColoradoCare. These lies have been propagated by a group called Coloradans for Coloradans, which is 99.84 percent financed by out-of-state health insurance companies, whose priority is to maximize profits for their shareholders and executives.

Conversely, ColoradoCare’s priority is the health care of real Coloradans. That’s why ColoradoCare will eliminate outrageous artificial pricing set by insurance companies.

The facts about ColoradoCare are that you choose your doctor, there are no deductibles, there are no co-pays for primary care and co-pays for specialty care can be waived in cases of financial hardship.

ColoradoCare will cost employees 3.3 percent of your wages and employers will pay 6.7 percent. (Employers currently spend an average of 13.5 percent of wages for their employees’ insurance).

Additionally, employers will no longer have to pay for the medical portion of workers’ compensation insurance, thus saving up to 59 percent. This is a big savings for everyone (except the insurance companies).

Each congressional district will have three board members whom we elect every two years, so they are directly accountable to us, the voters.

An increase of rates can only be approved by voters. ColoradoCare wants to ensure that medical professionals stay in Colorado, so they will be compensated well.

The current state of health insurance in Colorado is frightening. In 2017, Humana and United Healthcare will not offer individual plans. Rocky Mountain Health will offer plans only in Grand Junction.

Blue Cross requested permission from the Colorado Insurance Commissioner to raise rates by 26 percent. This path is only going to get worse.

Fortunately, we can end the insanity by voting “Yes” on Amendment 69. You can calculate how much ColoradoCare will save you by visiting ColoradoCare.org. You can also submit questions and they answer promptly.

Durango has a special opportunity as state Sen. Irene Aguilar, the chief medical architect of ColoradoCare, will present “Understanding Amendment 69” from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 1 at the Durango Public Library. She will be available to answer your questions.
