Durango couple receives Lifetime Achievement Award, letter from Obama

Dave and Mary Ann Carter recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award.

A Durango couple recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award for putting in more than 4,000 hours of community service work, warranting a letter from President Barack Obama.

According to a news release from the Durango Elks Lodge, Dave and Mary Ann Carter were recognized for their work with the Elks Hoop Shoot program, which serves children ages 8 to 13.

The Carters, who were not available for comment, also were involved with other Elks Lodge events, including golf tournaments, drug-awareness programs and scholarship committees.

“Dave and Mary Ann are still very active with the Elks Lodge and continue to give their time, knowledge, and financing expertise where needed,” the release said.

In his letter, Obama praised the Carters for helping move the country into a “new era of responsibility.”

Obama added: “We will only renew America if we all work together.”
