Registered sex offender absconds from work-release

Man cuts off ankle bracelet while working in Montrose
Beard

A registered sex offender with an extensive criminal history absconded from a work-release program in Montrose and was spotted Wednesday in the Norwood area, the San Miguel Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

Lloyd Allen Beard, 48, is known to frequent that area and nearby Telluride, the Sheriff’s Office said. He is wanted by the Department of Corrections and the Sheriff’s Office.

A parole officer told the Sheriff’s Office that Beard cut off his ankle-monitoring bracelet while working Tuesday and is believed to have hitchhiked to Norwood, which is his last known residence.

Sheriff Bill Masters said in a news release that although Beard is not considered to be armed and dangerous, he needs to be apprehended.

“Mr. Beard has a proven record of being a danger to the citizens of Colorado, he’s a sex offender, and he needs to be caught before he commits even more crimes,” Masters said in the release.

Anyone who sees Beard or knows of his whereabouts should contact San Miguel Country Sheriff’s Office (970) 728-1911, or local law enforcement.
