Kudos to Metz and crew for trail safety

As users of the Durango River Trail know, there is a blind corner where the trail drops under Highway 160, just down from the DoubleTree Inn. Unfortunately, another cyclist and I learned the hard way that this is a dangerous spot.

The next day, I reached out to Cathy Metz, director of Parks & Rec, and asked that the city install a mirror so approaching riders and pedestrians can see what’s coming.

She told me that had been tried years ago, but the mirror was repeatedly vandalized. Instead, she offered to expedite a project to paint a stripe down the middle of that section of trail, and to install signs warning of the blind corners.

What do you know? Within three weeks, both the stripe and the signs were installed. So I want to thank Metz and her crew for jumping on this request and making sure that the Durango River Trail is safe for everyone.
