Work near Gladstone could cause water discoloration in creek

Crews will replace damaged culvert
Water in Cement Creek may appear discolored in the coming week as a culvert is replaced near the Environmental Protection Agency's temporary water treatment plant.

Silverton Town Hall is alerting residents that installation of a replacement culvert in Cement Creek near the Environmental Protection Agency's temporary treatment plant will cause short, isolated periods of discoloration in the water for about a week.

Spring runoff damaged the existing culvert, making the road susceptible to erosion, the town said on its Facebook page.

The new culvert will ensure continued access to EPA's Interim Water Treatment Plant at Gladstone as well as to the Silverton Mountain Ski Area Gladstone pickup point.

Work, conducted in partnership between the EPA and San Juan County, began Thursday and is expected to last about a week.
