Durango vape shop burglarized overnight

Thieves steal a couple thousands dollars of merchandise
David Panter, owner of Third Eye Vapor in north Durango, discovered Tuesday morning he had been burglarized. He estimated thieves took a couple thousand dollars worth of merchandise overnight.

David Panter, owner of Third Eye Vapor in north Durango, walked into work Tuesday to find burglars had stolen an estimated couple thousand dollars of merchandise overnight.

“I’m still compiling a list of stuff,” Panter said. “But it’s definitely a hit.”

Panter said the thieves entered the store by unscrewing an air conditioning unit in the back of the building, 3102 Main Ave. The AC unit and the window mount were destroyed.

“Someone jumped up on the balcony, and entered that way,” he said.

Panter said he does not have security cameras, and that adjacent business owners in the small shopping strip did not have cameras facing the back of the building.

He also said he was uninsured because he couldn’t afford it.

Third Eye Vapor opened in April, and it is Panter’s first business in Durango.

“Business had been picking up in the last couple months,” he said. “Then this happened. But I’ll be fine.”

The thieves stole a bunch of merchandise related to vapor smoking, also known as E-cigarettes. He reported the theft to the Durango Police Department.

Durango police could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
