With a high turnout expected on Election Day, motor vehicle services won’t be offered by the
“We’ve done this every presidential election I can remember,” La Plata County Clerk & Recorder Tiffany Parker said. “Because of traffic volume, those will be closed.”
Parker said closing motor vehicle offices will leave more room in parking lots for voters and free up 11 employees to help with the election process. The locations are Voter Service and Polling Centers where voters can register to vote, cast their ballot in person or drop off their ballots.
More than 5 percent of ballots have been returned in La Plata County as of this week, and Parker anticipates close to 90 percent when the election is over.
Drop boxes have been open since ballots were mailed last week.
Service centers opened Monday at Bayfield Town Hall, 1199 Bayfield Parkway, and at the clerk and recorder’s office in Bodo Industrial Park, 98 Everett St.
Starting Nov. 4, an additional polling station will open at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave., where there will be a “drive-thru” option for citizens – voters will be able to hand in their ballots from their cars at a designated stop in the fairgrounds parking lot.
