Parks and Wildlife giving away salmon at Lake Nighthorse

Fishing license holders eligible
Pete Deren scoops up buckets of salmon at the annual fish giveaway in Joe Rowell Park in Dolores. On Tuesday, Nov. 11 and Nov. 18, Colorado Parks and Wildlife will give away kokanee salmon to fishing license holders at Lake Nighthorse.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife is giving away kokanee salmon to fishing license holders at Lake Nighthorse on Nov. 4, 11 and 18.

Recipients must present a 2016 Colorado fishing license and should bring a cooler or container for the fish, which are about 10 to 13 inches.

Kokanee are a freshwater, non-native species that thrive in Colorado’s reservoirs. Parks and Wildlife gives them away annually throughout the region.

Because Lake Nighthorse is not open to the public, people are required to stay in the parking lot on giveaway days.

They are asked to arrive no earlier than 2 p.m. Giveaways will start at 3 p.m. each day.

Lake Nighthorse is about two miles west on County Road 210.
