Police are reminding residents to remove valuables and lock their car doors after a spate of burglaries earlier this month in a Durango neighborhood.
The thefts occurred late Oct. 15 or early Oct. 16 in the 3200 blocks of East Fourth and East Fifth avenues, said Ray Shupe, spokesman with the Durango Police Department.
Four or five cars were rifled through, he said. Owners reported cash, tools and identification cards taken, among other items. The car doors were unlocked; there were no signs of forced entry, Shupe said.
“Some vehicles just had things rummaged through, like the glove box was obviously strewn about,” he said.
Residents should lock their car doors and remove valuables to prevent theft.
“Don’t be an easy target,” Shupe said. “Typically, it’s just not a good idea to leave valuable property in your vehicle unattended.”
Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call Crimestoppers at 247-1112.
“We haven’t generated any leads so far,” Shupe said.
