A man and woman suspected of robbing banks in Durango and
Pagosa Springs were indicted this week by a federal grand jury in
Denver. Kacey Allen Fisher, 32, is charged with armed robbery and
using a firearm during the commission of a crime. He faces up to 25
years in
prison for the bank robbery and up to seven years in prison for use of
a firearm. Julia Norris, 31, an accomplice, is charged with armed
robbery and faces up to 25 years in prison. The duo was arrested in
early April in Farmington.
Ignacio plugs in to solar farm idea
Ignacio
is proposing a solar farm just outside of town that it hopes could supply La Plata County government with a big chunk of
its power. County commissioners heard the town's pitch for the first time
during a meeting last week. Pat Senecal, who is spearheading the effort for the
town, said Ignacio would secure the land - approximately 10 acres - needed for
the farm, which would be a 1 megawatt photovoltaic system.
Education bills get high marks in legislature
DENVER - Republicans and
Democrats agreed on major education bills at the Capitol this year, even if
they don't always want to admit it. Republicans are crowing about the Colorado
Achievement Plan for Kids, which promises to rewrite the standards in public
schools over the next few years to prepare every student for college. "Republicans
are responsible for originating the ideas that became the biggest bipartisan
education measure in a decade," said House Minority Leader Mike May. But wait a
minute, said Gov. Bill Ritter. That bill was "hatched inside the governor's
office. We went looking for sponsors on that."
