Opening exhibit features book arts, printmaking

Durango Arts Center, 802 East Second Ave., will host an opening reception for the new exhibit, “Strata: Books & Prints by Carol and Donn Rawlings,” from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.

The exhibit runs through Aug. 29. Donn Rawlings grounds his printmaking in a texture of dense mark-making that evolves into patterns as a way to discover meaning. Carol Rawlings’ one-of-a-kind, handmade, calligraphic books seek openness and balance as text is joined to color and gesture.
