DAC representatives, artists to meet at library
A group of local artists will meet with representatives of the Durango Arts Center from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today at the Durango Public Library's meeting room.

The purpose of the meeting is for visual artists in particular to meet with board and staff members of the DAC to discuss how the center can better serve visual artists in the community and how artists can support the DAC.

Before the DAC Dialogue begins, artists will gather in Buckley Park with art in hand to march together to the library on the Animas River Trail in a show of supportive unity for the arts.

For more information, call Stew Mosberg at 884-2205 or e-mail stewmosberg@aol.com.

Filmmaker to teach teens at Bayfield library
Teens and tweens will learn the art of filmmaking from local director John Sheedy in a hands-on class from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Lavenia McCoy Public Library in Bayfield.

The class is part of the ongoing Summer Reading Program for teens and tweens.

Sheedy, whose most recent film is a documentary called Tijuana Project, will teach how to plan, shoot and edit a film.

The High-Tech Skillz session will give teens and tweens an inside look at the world of filmmaking and hopefully encourage them to express themselves through film.

For more information, call 884-2222.

4-H clubs to hold bluegrass picnic
The 4-H Clubs of Marvel, Breen and Red Mesa will host "A Bite and a Tune," a free picnic from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the San Juan Basin Research Center on Highway 140 in Hesperus.

Music will be provided by The High Desert String Band, and the clubs will serve hot dogs and hamburgers grilled on an applewood fire.

Club members urge everyone in attendance to bring a neighbor who otherwise would be eating alone, and all are welcome.
