Storyteller, auto harpist to perform at the libraryBonnie Phipps, auto harpist, storyteller and folksinger from Boulder, will perform two shows at 10 a.m and 11 a.m. Thursday in Program Rooms 1 and 2 at the Durango Public Library. Phipps' appearance is part of the library's summer reading program, "Be Creative @ Your Library."
Phipps is a national award-winning recording artist, Autoharp Champion, storyteller and contemporary folksinger. She presents upbeat songs and stories and encourages lots of audience interaction during her programs.
Free tickets are required for these shows. The tickets, which are available now, must be picked up in the Children's Room at the library.

Discovery Museum to host free movie nightsThe Durango Discovery Museum will screen a series of free family movies at the Powerhouse through the summer. In its inaugural season last year, more than 800 families attended. Blankets and chairs are welcome but parking is limited, so organizers ask that attendees walk or bike to the movie nights.
The July Sci-Fri Movie Night lineup:
- July 3: "Independence Day" and "Powerhouse Kids" DVD Release Party (begins at 6 p.m.)
- July 10: "WALL-E"
- July 17: "Galaxy Quest"
- July 24: "Night at The Museum"
- July 31: "Robots"
All July films begin at 7 p.m. and will be shown inside the Powerhouse, located at 1333 Camino del Rio.
'Applause' to perform at Fort Lewis MesaThe Fort Lewis Mesa Branch of the Durango Public Library is presenting the Durango Performing Arts Company song and dance troupe "Applause" today from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Fort Lewis Mesa Elementary School. There is no charge for the event.
