This time, the Durango Discovery Kids cooking teacher with the goofy name (aka DDK Museum Manager Ashley Hein), has created a fundraising cookbook that celebrates family bonding in the kitchen.
Durango Discovery Kids Cooks is filled with simple recipes that willencourage children to participate in making meals.
"Math, science, literature and life skills can all be absorbed while making dinner," writes Hein in the book's introductory note.
The recipes, provided by families in Durango, are easy and quick.
They often have fun titles to delight little ones, such as Porcupine Meatballs, Fruit Salad in a Cone, Goofy Snake Dogs and Shark Tooth Pasta.
Don't expect anything gourmet here, but most of the dishes will please parents by sneaking in nutritious ingredients.
The back of the book also features handy charts, definitions, tips and illustrations on napkin folding and table setting.
"Although the taste of the dish may fade from your memory eventually, the time you spend with your family will remain with you forever," writes Hein.
Durango Discovery Kids Cooks costs $12, and proceeds will benefit the Durango Discovery Museum. Buy the book at DDK museum, Maria's Bookshop, Carver Brewing Co. and at the Powerhouse during Family Movie Nights. - Karla Sluis
