The Women's Health Coalition of Southwest Colorado sponsors the event to provide money for nonmedical expenses of people undergoing cancer treatment. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
A number of clubs and businesses as well as the organizing group raise money during the annual campaign.
Funding sources include:
•Nine Durango beauty salons that donate all proceeds from pink-streaking hair.
•Durango and Ignacio high school volleyball teams, which contribute pledges from donors who pay a certain amount per dig - a defensive move that prevents a score by opponents.
•An auction of original art and jewelry at the Friday event.
•The sale of posters featuring a 56-by-56-inch quilt wall hanging by Allison Goss.
The fashion show models - Susan Kroes, Nancy Jacques, Sherri Phippen, Donalda Kroeger, Naomi Riess, Ed Phippen and Josh Joswick - will be outfitted in Durango casual style.
Artists donating jewelry are Nancy Conrad, Rachelle Davis, Carol Salomon, Peggy Maloney, Deana Presinte and Pat Lorenzen. Ann Smith is donating a watercolor; Maureen May, a pencil drawing; Carson Jones, a photo; Lisa Pedolsky, ceramics; and Allison Goss, a quilt, but not the one featured on the poster.
Last year's Pink Ribbon Affair raised $28,000, which provided money for 22 grants in La Plata, Archuleta, Montezuma and San Juan counties, said B.J. Boucher of the Women's Wellness Connection.
The total could be topped this year because Terene Foutz, the coach of the Ignacio High School volleyball team, already has $15,000 in pledges.
