McCain to visit Durango

Article Last Updated; Tuesday, October 21, 2008  12:11PM
Republican presidential candidate John McCain plans to visit Durango on Friday, a regional spokesman confirmed Tuesday.

Rumors that McCain planned to speak at Durango High School began circulating Tuesday morning.

Dyan Lee, spokeswoman for Durango School District 9-R, declined to confirm or deny the rumor, but promised more information by 3 p.m. today.

"It is true. He is going to Durango Friday the 24th," said Tom Kise, McCain's regional spokesman, based in Colorado. "We're working on details; it's just a matter of time."

The last presidential candidate believed to have visited Durango was Ralph Nader in September 2000, and before that John F. Kennedy in 1960.
