Billie Cardenas, left, and Aimee Beauregard laugh as Kristi Everett throws on a mask while walking through a torture room in the Durango Elks Lodge haunted house Wednesday. The three are club members. Visitors contribute $9 ($1 off for students) to the Elks Lodge Scholarship Program, which supports La Plata County high school students. Seven students received 2008 scholarships of $1,000 each. The haunted house is open from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. today, and 7:30 p.m. until the last soul leaves the building on Halloween, Cardenas said. The whole operation is run by volunteers and funded with donations from local businesses, she said.
