Durango resident Emily May Junak died of cancer in Durango on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009. She was 47.

Ms. Junak was born to Edward and Norma Junak in Palo Alto, Calif., on Nov. 27, 1961.

She had lived in Durango since 1984. Ms. Junak began working in construction before going into retail at Beads and Beyond in the 1990s. Most recently, she enjoyed traveling La Plata County under contract as a meter reader for La Plata Electric Association.

Ms. Junak enjoyed doing beadwork and leatherwork. She also enjoyed the outdoors, hiking and camping.

"She was surrounded by love from friends and family and was an inspiration for those who knew her," her family wrote.

Ms. Junak is survived by her father, Edward Junak, of Fruita; mother, Norma McQueary, of Aztec; stepfather, Bob McQueary, of Bloomfield, N.M.; brother, Donald Junak, of Lake City; sister, Amy Pfeiffer, of Bend, Ore.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 495 Florida Road.
