Jerome Markley Willis

Pagosa Springs resident Jer-ome Markley Willis died at Mercy Regional Medical Center on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009. He was three days shy of his 80th birthday.

Known as “Jere,” he was born to Alexander Blake and Mary Mildred Willis in Rawlins, Wyo., on Sept. 27, 1929.

He served in the Marine Corps. Mr. Willis was an entrepreneur in the land and oil industries.

Mr. Willis had lived in Pagosa Springs for about 20 years.

His hobbies included golf and fly-fishing, and he was an avid reader, particularly of history and war books.

Mr. Willis was preceded in death by his son, Alexander Willis; and daughter Mary Willis.

He is survived by his wife, Anita Ann Willis, of Meda-nales, N.M.; daughter Toni Caraan of Tacoma, Okla.; ex-wife, Betty Willis of Tacoma, Okla.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Cremation has occurred. No services are planned at this time.
